Undergraduate

High School students and post-secondary students wishing to earn a degree from the Faculty of Education will enter undergraduate studies.

The Faculty of Education offers several undergraduate programs and routes for students to choose from.

Four-Year Elementary Program

The Bachelor of Education Elementary Degree is a *120 credit, four-year program that prepares students to teach Kindergarten to Grade 6. Upon graduating from the program, students are eligible to apply for Teacher Certification in Alberta.

Four-Year Secondary Program

The Bachelor of Education Secondary Degree is a *120 credit, four-year program that prepares students to teach Junior High and High School. Upon graduating from the program, students are eligible to apply for Teacher Certification in Alberta.

Five-Year Combined Degrees Program

The combined degree programs offer graduates an opportunity to earn two bachelor degrees in five years in conjunction with partner faculties at the University. Students interested in Physical Education, Science, Music, Human Ecology, Native Studies, or Drama are encouraged to pursue a combined degree.

Two-Year After Degree (for students with an approved degree)

The After-Degree program designed for holders of three or four year approved Bachelor's degrees. The After-Degree can be completed in either Elementary or Secondary education, and graduates are eligible for teacher certification in Alberta.

Collaborative (Off-Campus) Degree

These degrees are opportunities for students to earn a University of Alberta degree while studying on the campus of one of two colleges in Alberta. These colleges are Red Deer College and Grande Prairie Regional College.

Aboriginal Teacher Education Program

ATEP is an off-campus elementary teacher education program designed to improve the educational success of Aboriginal children by increasing the number of Aboriginal teachers in communities in Northern Alberta. Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students are encouraged to apply.

Undergraduate Student Services

Undergraduate Student Services administers all undergraduate program admissions, transfer credits, program information, field experiences, student counseling support, and graduation applications for the Faculty of Education. The office maintains the official Faculty record of each student's undergraduate academic program as well as the student teaching reports.
